How Power is Constructed

The session in which we talk to James Wadley, Phd, about unpacking racism and systemic oppression in practice. Dr. Wadley is an Associate Professor and Chair of the Counseling and Human Services department at Lincoln University. He is a scholar-practitioner and maintains a private practice in both PA and NJ as a Licensed Professional Counselor.  He is also an AASECT Certified Sex Therapist Supervisor and is the founding editor of the Journal of Black Sexuality and Relationships. Dr. Wadley is the founder and principal of the Association of Black Sexologists and Clinicians.

We also talked about the importance of not committing microaggressions in the first place and what to do about it when we do (hint: defensiveness is not the answer).

The session in which we chat with Francisco Cortes, currently the interim executive director of GALAEI, about the work that he does for and with the organization to bring social justice to the queer Latinx community. As a Mexican immigrant and gay Philadelphian, Francisco is passionate about queer and trans, Latinx and Black youth empowerment and leadership development, and he brought that passion to our studio conversation.

Gonna Have a Life

The session in which we interview Rebecca Bonner, MEd, Head of School at the Bridge Way High School. Rebecca knows first-hand about the impact addiction can have on students and their families. The Bridge Way School is Philadelphia’s first recovery high school and the only one in  Pennsylvania that is licensed and accredited by the PA Department of Education. The school’s mission is to offer a strong academic program to students in recovery from substance abuse and/or addiction.

The session in which we talk to returning guest Kevin Moore, PsyD about opioid addiction. Dr. Moore’s passion includes creating integrative medicine services for vulnerable populations. Opioid addiction has been a particular focus of his work for the past 5+ years give its huge toll on the people he serves. Dr. Moore views psychology as part of healthcare, and healthcare as part of social justice.

The session in which we interview Danielle Griffith, MSW, LSW, Program Director for the Kelly Anne Dolan Memorial Fund. Founded by Peggy Dolan, the Kelly Anne Dolan Memorial Fund works to lighten the burdens and lift the spirits of families caring for children with serious illnesses, disabilities, and injuries. They provide financial assistance for needs not covered by insurance, education and other resources to families living or seeking treatment in PA, NJ or DE.
